Smithie in Petone Gasworks. Still working up till he died. Doug stayed with him in 1943. Marie recalls that Jeannie gave her a doll. Also that Jeannie liked her Gin. Doug recalls Jeannie needed a brain operation.
Marie mentioned that she stayed with RSS when the NZ Exhibition was on in Wgtn.
--------------------
The house in Jessie St. Wgtn was 2 storeyed, but looking at records obtained from the Wellington Archives, it seems that the rental property had serious issues with the upstairs part. When we visited the property, it had a huge hallway which could have easily accommodated a dogleg stairwell. Looking at other properties of the same age suggests this but is not proof. The archive material from the city engineer is abnormal in that it had become a hygiene case necessitating repairs done under demand of penalty.
