  From Warren Lee. From Crossow in Prussia now on the border of Poland and Germany, could be spelt Crossen, Krosno Ordrzanske. 3.85 kms from Frankfurt on the Oder river. 68 kms from Berlin. Godreids occupation on Williams marriage certificate to Mary Dovolosky says he was a Thatcher. Extract of a letter from Warren Lee (born Keith Warren Gutschlag) 2001. 'I recall Pauline (Bungard, granddaughter of Caroline Gutschlag/Bungard) telling me that the name Gutschlag stood for Good shot/stroke, as they were the executioners (headchoppers) for the Prussian rulers for several hundred years as the family business'. Gottfried died 21 Dec 1861 and was buried 24 Dec 1861 at Crussow Germany. He was 43 years old, an Arbeitsmann (workman) and left behind five minor children.
