In 1868 he married Christina Crawford at the ‘Greenlaw’ farm. Christina passed away in 1886 and mention is made of ‘Greenlaw’.

After leaving Taieri, it is a little unclear about his movements. By 1915 he had moved to Drummond in Southland, and for the 1914 version of “Anniversary of Otago: Surviving Passengers” he is stated as being an Engine Driver at Drummond. This was actually at Grove Bush, Southland and he remained a driver for several years.

David’s demise though, was accidental drowning in Bluff Harbour while visiting Southland in 1923. Prior to that he had been working as a night watchman at the Spar Bush sawmill, which is half-way between Drummond and Invercargill.

Although dying at Bluff, which is about 20km from Invercargill, Southland. David is not buried in Invercargill, he is recorded as being buried in East Taieri Cemetery.

With his passing, all the original colonists of the Brown family that arrived on the ‘Bernicia’ in 1848, have now passed.

David and Christina had the following children.
