Barney was born at Balfour on 28 Feb 1897. He was the first born to James and Christina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was admitted to Balfour School, Southland, New Zealand, on 20 Jan 1908 (register number, 415. Milton reached Std VI level).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He left Balfour School on 11 Dec 1911 having come from Mataura School, Southland, New Zealand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He then engaged as Cadet in the Railways at Christchurch<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Travel to England<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

An article appears in the newspapers of the day that sheds some light on how a young man made it all way to England and the joined WWI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Traveled to England in 1915 and enlisted with the Liverpool Regiment and was wounded later in the year. He was then sent to Victoria Hospital in England to recover and a further 2 hospitals after that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the war, visited the USA on the way home and traveled to Adelaide where he died of Tuberculosis in Adelaide Consumptive Hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Barney past on the 24 May 1923, and is laid to rest at Adelaide at the West Terrace Cemetery, Road A Extension, Row 3W, Site Number 20<\/p>\n\n\n\n
