The Chambers family originate from Orford, Suffolk, England and of the pioneers, George Chambers arrived for the West Coast Gold Rush in the 1860s and there is no record of the arrival, which is just a simple matter of volume. There were too many people arriving at one time and recording their arrival was not done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is one possible record, which is a George Chambers leaving Melbourne for New Zealand on-board the ship ‘Greyhound’ in Sept 1862.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exact date of George’s arrival is uncertain\/unknown, but his bride, Catherine Good, arrived in 1872. There is a record of Catherine arriving at Melbourne, Feb 1872 on-board the ‘Hampshire’. I have not been able to find a record of her arriving in New Zealand, sadly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the 29 Feb 1872 at All Saints Church, Hokitika, Catherine and George were married. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The town of Stafford, not far from Hokitika. At one time there were 5,000 people living and digging for gold in this town.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Catherine was first to pass away aged 70 in 1909 and is buried in the Old Stafford Cemetery. George lived until 1926 and is buried alongside Catherine and a Kinsella grandchild too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
