David was born in Dunedin, Otago and went to school in Otepopo, North Otago. Around 1897, he married Hephzibah Reynolds and the couple had 4 children together. Sadly David died in 1906 in Gore, Southland and there was an article where he had an accident that resulted in him losing fingers, so perhaps that accident ended badly for David. Hephzibah was also pregnant when David died, so a very tragic time for her. She passed away at Invercargill in 1945.
