Jane ” Jennie” Brown

Born in Aug 1875, Jane would live under several names, but from the 1920s onwards, she would be called Jennie.

There is very little actual data relating to Jennie, but curiously, a painting held in the family was created by her.

There is a record of Jennie on the 1893 general election roll for East Taieri, but she does not appear on the suffragette roll. She is listed as being over 20 and a Domestic Servant. For the remainder of her life, she lived in and around Taieri Plain and southern Dunedin, in a similar fashion to her younger sister, Agnes. The two appear not to have lived together at all with Jennie taking over her parents’ house on their demise (from 1922) and living there until her departing in 1952.

She is buried with her parents at East Taieri Cemetery as per the snippet below.
