Elizabeth was the eldest daughter of Martha and David Hamilton, baptised in Ashford on the Water, Derbyshire on the 7 Aug 1848. She also appears in the 1851 census and would have been 8 years old when her family moved to New Zealand in 1856.
Elizabeth fell pregnant and in Oct 1867 gave birth to daughter Ada ,
She married August Florance on the 13 Oct 1872 at St Luke’s Church, Christchurch and from that union would stem an additional 4 children.
Augustus was a newspaper typesetter.
