Roscena was born on the 3 Dec 1896 at Gore, Southland, New Zealand. She was the second child to her mother, but first born to her father. Like Arthur, her school records have the grandfather as guardian, rather than McKinnell. And that is for a number of years.

On the 27 April 1921, Roscena married Robert Phillip Dalcom Leathley at Arney Street in Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand.
Bob and Rosie were members of the Salvation Army their entire lives.
