Janet Brown

Janet Pollock nee Brown, died 1903, Invercargill. Photo Malcolm Garrett.

Janet had a 3 year old son with her on the 1848 Bernicia voyage, shown as William McFarlane. The child’s father did not make the trip to New Zealand. Janet married William Pollock in 14 Sept 1849 at Taieri, Otago, but her future would lie mainly in Otepopo and in East Taieri and concluding in Southland.

Over the years, it would appear that Janet and her husband William would become estranged, with William dying in Whanganui where he lived with one of his sons. There was an earlier incident between Janet’s eldest son and Janet’s husband that could have caused a rift between the two. Janet would pass away at her daughter Janet’s home in Invercargill in her 87th year.
