Was born at Yaldhurst, Christchurch on the 15 November 1903.
Similar to his brother, he attended Lyttelton School in his youth.
Before 1928, Richard made his way to Dunedin and on the 5 February 1936, he married Margaret Evelyn Forest McKenzie at Dunedin.
From that union, the couple had the following children:

Hi occupation was as Storeman as can be seen in Electoral records. That remained his occupation throughout his life.
Towards the end, Richard was a resident in Cherry Farm and passed away there on the 15 May 1983 and his remains are interred at Andersons Bay Cemetery
Hi wife, Eve, passed away on the 30 June 1997 at Dunedin and is buried alongside Richard.
