Was born on the 29 April 1888 at Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand. He attended Richmond School in 1894.
On the 25 February 1914 at Christchurch, he married Margaret Hannah Wigzell and the couple had the following children.

Like many of his brothers, he was a farmed and carried out that activity around Burwood for his entire life. In retirement he remained in the Burwood area, namely Travis Road.
Margaret passed away on the 17 November 1950 at Christchurch.
Walter died on the 31 December 1971 at Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand and his remains are found in the Bromley Cemetery in Christchurch, alongside Margaret.
