Was born on the 9 April 1909 at Mataura, Southland, New Zealand. Mary Jane attended Waimum School and then Croydon Siding School.
At the age of 21, Mary Jane married George Bruce, on the 19 Aug 1931 at Gore, Southland, New Zealand. After that event, her and new husband George, moved to Ashburton, Canterbury.
From that union arrived 3 children, with one still extant at time of writing (2026).
